Brussels, 26 June 2017 – Finance Watch, the independent organisation that defends the public interest in financial reform, announces that it has appointed Mireille Martini as its new Senior Research and Advocacy Officer on sustainable finance with effect from 1 September 2017.

mireille-martiniA French national and former investment banker specializing in international project finance, Mireille Martini spent more than twenty years as a senior executive at a number of large French banks in France as well as in Russia and at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. In 2007, she opted for a role in financial education by becoming the Head of the Corporate Finance Education Department at First Finance. Since then, she has been working as author, scientific editor and expert advisor on energy and prosperity for different national and international organisations.

She also brings to the team her experience in international negotiations around climate finance:  As a reporter of the COP21 Canfin-Grandjean French Presidential Commission on Mobilising Climate, she was advising France as Cop21 host on the worldwide financing of the low carbon transition. She was also associated to the work of the  Stern Stiglitz Worldwide Commission on Carbon Pricing, which was appointed at Cop22 by Minister Royal to advise on worldwide carbon pricing design policies fostering faster delivery on the Paris Agreement.

Mireille Martini, future Senior Research and Advocacy Officer on sustainable finance at Finance Watch, said:

“I am very much looking forward to working at Finance Watch, the most prominent voice of civil society in Europe on financial issues, and to taking part in the policy discussions in Brussels, where most issues around finance and sustainability end up being dealt with.

“With my previous research and publication work linking finance and sustainability, I am confident that I will be able to support Finance Watch in making finance better serve a sustainable world. This has been my long time vocation."

Benoît Lallemand, Secretary General of Finance Watch, said:

“I am very pleased that Mireille J. Martini has accepted to lead our research and advocacy work in this most crucial area. Mireille is a leading expert and advocate in her field with a vast hands-on experience. She will contribute to maintaining and strengthening our reputation of excellence.

Mireille’s background in financial education is no coincidence either, as we recognize that technically sound arguments do not suffice and embrace our role in building capacity for consumers, citizens and civil society to make better informed choices and join the movement to change finance."
